Hybrid Congress for AHC2020

Dear Participants,

In capacity as the convener of the 3rd Asian Horticultural Congress 2020 (AHC2020), I would like to confirm that the AHC2020 will be convened on 15-17 December 2020 at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok. Taking various factors into consideration, in particular, global crisis of COVID-19 pandemic, in-person congress as earlier planned is not possible for foreign participants due to travel restrictions and a 14-day alternative state quarantine. We therefore decided to organize hybrid conference which combines virtual conference for speakers from overseas and in-person meeting for speakers from Thailand. The webinar platform will be supported by one of our major sponsors namely Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

The on-line platform will include interesting topics from keynote and invited speakers, parallel sessions, industry exhibition and chat rooms. Registered participants have the option to hold either pre-recorded or on-line presentations. All presentations will be available on-demand apart from livestream.

We look forward to your participation in the AHC2020 which is our commitment to carry on amidst unexpected global COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for your on-going support in these challenging times.

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Ananta Dalodom
President of the Horticultural Science Society of Thailand and Chairman of the Third Asian Horticultural Congress (AHC2020)

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are all living in challenging times. I hope you, your families and colleagues are doing well and staying safe.

I would like to invite you to the 3rd Asian Horticultural Congress (AHC2020) which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand between 15 - 17 December 2020. There are different options to join with AHC2020.

The health and safety of our members is the number one priority of our society. ISHS is in close contact with the organizers of AHC2020 to take local regulations to minimize by the impact of this pandemic.
Wishing to see you soon,

Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Yüksel TÜZEL
President of ISHS
On behalf of the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science (JSHS), I would like to congratulate you on holding AHC2020 in Thailand.

The AHC was first held in the Republic of Korea and then in China; now, it is being held in Thailand. In the past, there was no organization for the exchange of information among Asians who were interested in horticulture. However, AHC has been held as an academic conference since 2008 and is now serving as a platform for strengthening academic exchange through mutual cooperation. In such a scenario, I sincerely hope that this year’s Congress will further intensify our connections and promote horticultural research.

Although the second AHC was scheduled to be held in Japan, it had to be cancelled owing to the immense damage caused by the massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011. Once again, the COVID-19 pandemic is greatly limiting academic exchanges around the world. In this regard, I would like to show my appreciation to the organizer for overcoming the constraints and hosting AHC 2020 in Thailand. JSHS is planning to hold AHC in 2023 to demonstrate the recovery and the developments that have taken place after the earthquake and tsunami and further to commemorate the 100th anniversary of JSHS. At that time, I hope that many people will participate and have meaningful exchanges.

Horticultural science is essential for the development of the horticultural industry on an academic basis. Furthermore, contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals is currently required, and the importance of horticultural science is increasing.

I hope that AHC2020 will be a great success and that Asian horticulture will grow even further.

With kind regards,
Dr. Yoshinori Kanayama
President of JSHS
Dear Honorable Guests and Distinguished Horticultural Scientists,

On behalf of members of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science (KSHS) and myself, it is my great honor to have this opportunity to express my congratulations in this opening ceremony of the 3rd Asian Horticultural Congress 2020 (AHC2020) in Bangkok, Thailand under the theme “Asian Horticulture for a Sustainable World”.

I appreciate all the effort put together for the AHC2020 by Dr. Ananata Dalodom, Chairperson of the AHC2020 Organizing Committee and President of the Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, and its members. It is very grateful for us to take part in the AHC2020 despite the continued COVID-19 pandemic over a year all over the world.

Horticultural industry has great potential for further development, especially in Asia, to meet increasing and uniquely Asiatic demand for fresh and healthy produce. Increased interest in food safety by consumers requires eco-friendly and sustainable production. At the same time extreme weather conditions caused by global climatic changes necessitate development of more sustainable and stable production systems with the aid of protected cultivation, artificial intelligence, and information and communications technology. Asian countries, encompassing various geographical and climatic conditions, have diverse plant genetic resources, and increasing research competency and personnel in horticultural science and technology. As the COVID-19 brings about enormous changes in every corner of our work and life, new ways are sought to provide safe and fresh foods for physical and mental health of consumers such as locally-adapted crop management system.

I and members of the KSHS, who are proud of laying the foundation and hosting the 1st AHC in Jeju, Korea in 2008 with the theme ‘Asian Horticulture Towards Collaboration and Prosperity’, sincerely hope unlimited exchange of information and ideas among participants in this 3rd AHC on appropriate and timely topics to further accelerate the advancement of horticultural science and technology for not only all Asian countries, but also all other countries.

All members of the KSHS and I wish that every participant is healthy and have great time with a variety of interesting and stimulating topics, and also valuable experience at this Congress.
Byoung Ryong Jeong
President of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science
Dear Friends,

The III Asian Horticultural Congress (AHC2020) will offer unique opportunities for all ISHS members with an interest in Asian Horticulture to share ideas and network.

Over the last couple of years the AHC2020 Congress President Dr. Ananta Dalodom, together with the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee have been putting great efforts in proposing a unique and attractive scientific program focusing on the most current topics in Asian Horticulture.

I personally share the hope of the Organizing Committee that after first having been forced to postpone the initial date of the meeting, by the time of the new scheduled date for AHC2020 to take place in December 2020, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic may have improved to the level we have been looking forward to for many months already.

The ISHS President and members of the Board are providing their full support to the local organizers, helping them mitigating the effects of the pandemic and ensuring the meeting can take place under the best possible conditions, fully in line with the most stringent safety measures and under whatever format would that would fit these requirements.

Looking forward to your participation in AHC2020!

Sincerely,
Peter Vanderborght
Executive Director of International Society for Horticultural Science
